You know how you have your routine, you do what you do every day, and most of the time everything goes relatively smoothly? And then there are those times when, out of the blue, everything goes completely wrong and you're standing there saying to yourself, "What just happened?"? That was me this week. On Monday, in the span of 10 minutes, my 2 year old got his fingers caught in a door and my 4 year old tripped and scraped his leg on the way into preschool. This is on the morning where I needed to have everything timed down to the second in order to get everyone where they needed to be and me to work on time. By the time one was delivered into the arms of his teacher and her band-aids and the other was strapped in the car still crying over his fingers, there was no way I could make it to his sitter and get back in time. He's crying, now I'm crying and it was just one of those hopeless moments. I actually had another one this morning when the 2 year old freaked out over all the costumed kids and teachers and, sobbing, refused to let me go, even though, again, I had to be at work at a specific time. Yes, again I cried too. I work part time and on different days all the time, so to have this happen twice in one week was odd and so very stressful! So now I'm home, breathing deeply, and ready to get back to our regularly scheduled, moderately smooth routine. Unless bad things really do come in threes, in which case I'm just screwed. At least tomorrow there will be Halloween candy...chocolate makes everything better.
