I went to back-to-school night the other day and the teacher handed out a "Parent Homework Pass - Just for those evenings when parents need a break." I'm not exactly sure when would be the appropriate time to use such a pass. I mean, I could use a break all the time, but what is the exact best moment to use a Parent Homework Pass? Is it for when my kid is whining to high heaven about having to do a worksheet that should take him five minutes to do but is now going on twenty-five and I just can't take it anymore? Or is it for the night that all of us have to spend over 2 hours at the gym because somehow we thought it would be a good idea to schedule back to back swim lessons and tae kwon do all on the same night. Or is it the night that we all get so caught up in enjoying each other's company that we just don't want to break the mood with homework? Ok, that really doesn't happen, but it might! The possibilities are endless, and I keep envisioning that guy from
Indiana Jones in the Last Crusade saying
,"choose wisely...". I'm not sure what the right moment will be, but as long as I'm not still holding the Pass on the last day of school, I'lll have come out ahead!
