12 Hours & Somerset Patriots Ticket Giveaway

All This Week's Warren, Watchung, Green Brook & Long Hill Kid Activities

By Roseann Sicola, Macaroni Kid Warren July 10, 2014
My kids started camp this week, including my 2-year old.  For this one week this summer, I had 12 completely child-free hours. I went to the grocery store without a purse full of snacks to quiet the bickering, I went to the gym without the fear of being paged by the child care center to deal with a dirty diaper in the middle of Zumba, and I went to the library and picked out books for myself instead of frantically re-shelving items as my whirlwind of a two-year-old wrecked havoc. (His newest trick is removing dvds from their cases and flinging them.) I got a pedicure, scheduled appointments, and reconnected with an old friend.  And I drove around feeling the entire time like I was missing or forgetting something.  Yes, the free time was wonderful, but a little part of me was kind of lonely.  So I'm glad I only got 12 free hours.  It was just enough time to miss my little shadows, and just maybe the next time I have 3 kids hanging off the grocery cart and the fourth one screaming for strawberries at the top of his lungs at Shop Rite, I'll actually savor the chaos for a minute before I start to lose my mind.  Maybe.

This is another double issue this week.  I'm heading to St. Louis next week for a conference, so if you see my husband around town with all four kids, pity him.

We're giving away Somerset Patriots tickets again!  This is a two-week contest - enter after the baseball article!

Do your kids love fishing or want to learn more about it?  Mr. B's Fishing Camp will be held Aug. 4-8 at Watchung Lake for grades 4-9.  More info at www.watchunglittleleague.org.

The libraries are rocking this month!  There are tons of activities at all three libraries for the kids, and the teen programs look especially cool - be sure to check them out!

Speaking of libraries, Watchung residents bring your kids and join the Friends of the Watchung Library at 2pm on Friday, July 11 to deliver a petition to the Mayor in support of the Watchung Library!  Lemonade and cookies will be sold.

Don't forget that when you are scrolling through the events listed in the newsletter, there may be more events listed on our CALENDAR, so be sure to check there now and then too!
