All Natural Homemade Scents

Do It Yourself!

By Charlotte Linde, Cedar Rapids Macaroni Kid Publisher Mom December 16, 2010
I am really sensitive with many store bought chemical fragrances, what exactly IS in those anyway?  You know how it goes - first the strong chemical "spring fresh" smell, then the headache, then the nose itch, and finally all the allergy symptoms start to say "hello".  I am so sensitive that sometimes those fragrances trigger an asthma attack.

So...

a few years ago I started this all natural holiday "simmer" in my kitchen.  Whenever I want the full effect of the holidays while trimming the tree or watching a Christmas movie, this is what's brewing in my kitchen!

Ingredients:

You can add your favorites, but this is my base!

Orange peels

Teaspoon of cinnamon

Teaspoon of nutmeg

Teaspoon of whole cloves

Teaspoon of anise seeds (they smell like Pitzelles!)

Fill a small pot with water and add all of your ingredients.  Bring to a simmer and then turn it down to your lowest stove top setting.  Be sure to keep an eye on your water level, you don't want the water to run out on you.  I have turned it off and used it again a couple of times before I discard it. I wonder if I could put some pine needles in there?! :)
